Dr Nirven Maharaj, the Oncologist at the helm of Dorchester Cancer Centre, is based at Midlands Medical Centre Private Hospital. After completing his medical degree from the University of Natal, he began training in Oncology in the United Kingdom, gaining experience at Christie’s NHS Hospital in Manchester, England and Cork University Hospital in the Republic of Ireland. After three years in the UK, he returned to Cape Town to complete his Specialisation in Oncology. In 2013, he was offered a fellowship in Oncology at The Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, New York City which he completed before returning to South Africa to enter private practice. He has relished the opportunity of practicing in his home town of Pietermaritzburg, joining the team of specialist and allied healthcare providers at Midlands Medical Centre Private Hospital.
